1. Framed and Shot 08.24.08 / 11pm

   This is a good candid “street portrait”. Great eye contact between the subject and the photographer. It is also sharp (quite a feat considring the focal length and the shutter speed. We enjoyed the shot.
   Question: Why do you predominantly use low ISO settings? At shutter speeds like this we tend to get a lot of “throw aways”.

   Yes, I’m a bit surprised myself that it came out this sharp setting the shutter to 1/20 sec.
   There are a couple of good reasons for using low ISO:
   1) Experiences from shooting analogue film - I always used ISO 100, and the results were good.
   2) The Olympus E-series doesn’t handle high ISO very well, and the E-500 doesn’t work using anything higher than ISO 800.
   3) Image quality is always better shooting in low ISO. You get more pixels per inch and lines in the image, colours come out more saturated (I think), detail/dynamics are better.
   Raising the ISO creates larger pixels, and the spillover from one px to the other creates more noise.
   At least that’s what I’ve been told.

   Et flott bilde som viser et ansiktsutrykk med spor av glede og trygghet, alt hva et barn trenger for å bli et trykt og voksent menneske. Det er dessverre alt for mange som ikke får den tryggheten. Fine gråtoner og god skarphet på øynene.
